As you may have noticed already, this month I am participating in the Word Count Blogathon, along with hundreds of other fascinating bloggers. This fun-filled event inspires bloggers everywhere to create daily posts and share ideas with the rest of the world. For May 10th, we were tasked with writing a Japanese inspired Haiku poem. Well, to be honest, I have never written a poem like this and didn’t know much about them! So, be kind as you read mine…
My Haiku poem is directly inspired by the natural beauty of Charleston, South Carolina where I live and work. We are blessed with some of the most splendid scenery and wildlife in the world. Along with beautiful beaches, pine forests and gardens, many birds come to the Carolina’s during the cold winter months to mate and rear young one’s .
The most impressive of these birds is the Snowy Egret, which displays stunning white plumes along it’s head that’s supported by a very slender long neck, much like the flamingo. I often come across families of Egrets on my late-afternoon walks around our property. I hope that this poem inspires you to come visit Charleston sometime soon to experience this for yourself!
Marsh grass brown and tall
Golden waving in sea breeze
Egrets soon take flight
